Callum Morton

Morton was a lot like a Daddy Long Legs – all limbs and pretty easy to catch and break. We secured Morton on a season-long loan in September 2020 and it seemed like a big capture after five goals in nine for Northampton. He marked his debut weekend by featuring in the EFL Cup and scored his first Imps goal in the next round against Bradford City. A shoulder injury later that month stalled his momentum and required a lengthy recovery, with the club confirming in November that surgery was under consideration.
He returned to action on 2 March 2021 and scored within minutes against Fleetwood Town. It was a brief renaissance that didn’t lead to a run of form. With Tom Hopper and Jorge Grant out injured, we leaned on Morton for attacking prowess, but he often looked a little lightweight. That was perhaps a symptom of missing most of the season.
Morton’s Lincoln spell totalled 21 appearances and three goals across league and cups. In the league he registered two goals from seventeen outings, complemented by a cup strike and further minutes in the EFL Trophy and play-offs.
He appeared for Fleetwood, Peterborough, Forest Green and Northampton since then, but hasn’t quite turned into the player he threatened to before he came to us. Now, he’s looking for a new employer.
