Five League One Players I’d Love Lincoln City To Sign

Charlie Webster – Burton Albion

Okay, so I thought I’d push the boundaries immediately with a player who may well be at a club struggling, but who is sure to pop up at Bolton or Huddersfield as soon as they hit a patch of poor form and need to spend again.

Webster joined Chelsea at under 10 level, where his technical quality and easy confidence in tight spaces marked him out early. Big clubs circled while he was still a teenager, but he stayed put and earned a place in The Guardian’s Next Generation list, a nod to how highly he was regarded.

A loan move to Heerenveen in 2023 gave him his first taste of senior football, complete with a debut goal and the sort of learning curves young midfielders tend to collect abroad. Burton Albion then made their move in the summer of 2024, offering him a permanent home and regular football. He has thrived ever since, becoming a central figure in their midfield with a growing eye for goal and a calmness that belies his age.

I’ve seen a lot of football, but if you ask me one player I think will play higher, without a doubt, it is Webster. If he is wearing Burton colours this time next season, I’ll be shocked. If he’s wearing Lincoln colours, I’ll be even more shocked.
