Stamford AFC have made one of the most eye-catching local moves of the winter, announcing the arrival of Australian defender midfielder Josh Cavallo from Peterborough Sports.
Cavallo’s Career to Date
Cavallo began his football journey after initially focusing on tennis before switching sports as a youngster. He progressed through the Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City youth systems after being scouted at 15 and earning a scholarship.
His senior career started with Western United, where he made his A League debut in January 2020 and earned a late penalty in that first appearance. He left the club in February 2021 in search of more regular football and joined Adelaide United shortly afterwards. His first campaign in Adelaide brought 18 appearances and the club’s Rising Star award, leading to a two-year contract extension. He featured as both a left back and central midfielder during his time there.
Cavallo represented Australia at under 19 and under 20 levels, including appearances at the 2018 AFC under 19 Championship. He hoped to push for senior recognition ahead of the 2022 World Cup but was not selected.
After failing to feature for Adelaide during the 2024–25 season, Cavallo left the club and moved to England. He joined Peterborough Sports in July 2025, making the switch to Stamford AFC this winter as the Daniels strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign.

Recognition Beyond the Pitch
Cavallo has also been acknowledged for his work off the field. He received an honorary doctorate from Flinders University in 2022 for his contribution as a role model in elite sport and was nominated as the 2023 SA Young Australian of the Year.
Stamford supporters will now have the chance to see him add that experience and background to their push through the remainder of the season.
