The Best Lincoln City / Cardiff City 5-a-Side Team

I dropped this feature a few weeks ago, but I’m addicted to Rush on EA FC 26.

That’s right, like a teenage boy, I am rushing through my day’s work to play 5-a-side virtual football, and last night, while screaming at the screen as some muppet tried to beat everyone without passing, I wondered what made a good 5-a-side team.

Communication? Sure. A decent keeper? Yep. Defenders need to be mobile, and you can be attack-heavy if you have a bit of pace and a hard-working frontline.

With that in mind, I’ve looked back at players who appeared for Cardiff and us, and have come up with the perfect 5-a-side team.

Ryan Allsop

Signed on deadline day in January 2018 as cover for the injured Josh Vickers, Ryan Allsop quickly became central to City’s season. He played a decisive role in the EFL Trophy run, producing a key save in the shoot-out against Chelsea Under-21s in the semi-final to send the Imps to Wembley. Allsop then started the final as Lincoln beat Shrewsbury Town to lift the Trophy, completing a half-season that also brought consistent league performances and 20 appearances in all competitions.

After Lincoln, Allsop continued to build a strong EFL profile. Following spells elsewhere, he joined Cardiff City to secure regular Championship football, adding experience at that level before later moves. His time at Cardiff formed an important part of his career progression, bridging his Lincoln success with subsequent roles at Hull City and Birmingham City, where he went on to win the 2024-25 League One title.
