Michael Skubala took a moment to update supporters on James Collins’ injury ahead of this weekend’s clash with Cardiff City.
The Imps host the Bluebirds for the first time in 24 years, looking to strengthen our unlikely position in the top three of the League One table.
However, we will do so without Collins, who has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury. Our leading scorer with six goals, he will be a big miss over the second half of the season.
Michael confirmed that he has now had the operation he needed, and will now begin the long road back to fitness, which stretches beyond the limits of his current Imps contract.
“It seems to have gone well,” Michael said in his pre-match press conference. “He had his operation 48 hours ago in London.
“He went under the knife, and hopefully, fingers crossed, now he’s looking to rehab, and he’s resting at home.
“He’ll be back in with us and start his rehab from Monday.”
A seasoned League One striker, Collins joined us in January of this year and made an immediate impression, scoring against Peterborough as we recorded our biggest ever win against Posh.
He also scored a season-defining goal after we went 1-0 down at home against Crawley, which turned around our post-Christmas form. He finished the season with ten goals in 20 outings.

This season, he bagged six, with a brace against Plymouth and another against Wigan, including two penalties. With two in the EFL Trophy, his tally of six is ahead of Reeco Hackett (five), our leading scorer from open play.
Collins will now begin a long road back to a football pitch, one we have already seen Lewis Montsma walk twice. Doubtless, whatever the future holds, the club will do the right thing by the Irish striker, who turned 35 at the start of December, just days before he suffered his injury.
