Grantham Town ended a long wait for county silverware with a composed 2-0 victory over Louth Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy final, writes David Ward.
Louth began the sharper of the two sides, immediately asking questions of the Grantham defence. Their front line showed pace and intent, and inside the opening exchanges they forced Jack Steggles into a couple of strong saves to keep things level. There was a sense early on that Louth were playing with freedom, stretching Grantham and looking the more dangerous outfit.

However, the rhythm of the game shifted midway through the first half. A enforced Louth substitution around the 24-minute mark disrupted their early flow, with Kieran Perry replacing Harry Jacklin. After that, Grantham gradually began to assert themselves. While not entirely dominant, they started to carry more threat, particularly through Alex Roberts, who looked lively whenever he drifted into space.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute, albeit with a touch of fortune. Lee Shaw found room on the edge of the area and struck goalwards, his effort taking a deflection that carried it beyond Hayden Blow and into the net. It was not the cleanest of finishes, but it gave Grantham a foothold in the game and, crucially, a 1-0 lead at the break.
Second-half control seals the trophy
The second half told a different story. Grantham emerged with greater control and purpose, moving the ball more confidently and limiting Louth’s opportunities to counter. Where the opening period had been relatively even, the latter stages increasingly leaned in favour of the Gingerbreads.
Chances began to come more regularly, with Roberts at the centre of much of their attacking play. Louth, to their credit, continued to battle and had moments where they threatened, but they struggled to recreate the same intensity they had shown early on.
The decisive moment arrived in the 70th minute. Roberts, who had been a constant outlet, cut inside and produced a composed finish to double Grantham’s advantage. It was a goal that reflected the shift in momentum, reward for a side that had grown stronger as the game progressed.
From there, Grantham managed the contest well. They continued to look the more likely to add to their tally, while Louth’s late efforts never quite carried the same conviction as their early pressure. A couple of late set-pieces hinted at a route back, but the outcome never seriously looked in doubt.
At full time, Grantham were deserved winners, their second-half display proving the difference in what had been an absorbing final. For Louth, there was plenty of credit in their run and their start to the match, but it was Grantham who found the key moments when it mattered.
