Exeter chasing survival boost after dramatic late equaliser
Exeter City boss Matt Taylor says his side must build on momentum after a dramatic late draw boosted their survival hopes.
A remarkable stoppage-time equaliser from goalkeeper Jack Bycroft rescued a 3-3 draw against play-off chasing Stockport County, a result that could prove crucial in the fight to stay in League One.
Exeter now sit just two points from safety heading into the final matches of the campaign, with their recent form showing signs of improvement after a prolonged difficult spell that dragged them into the relegation places.
“The high, and it was a big high post-game Saturday, has now got to turn into a real focus going into Burton,” Taylor said.
“It feels like there’s some momentum building now, positive momentum around the results that we’ve seen.
“We’ve lost once in five, scored eight in the last three and defensively we have to improve certain areas.
“But I think in terms of the way we’ve looked as a team and the fight we’ve shown as well in big moments has been crucial in terms of building that feel.
“But that’s got to sustain us for a longer period then maybe the first half or the first few minutes of the game and regardless of what the opposition throw at us as well.”
There is still work to do, however, with Exeter knowing defeat in their upcoming fixture could seal relegation depending on results elsewhere, underlining the fine margins at play in the bottom four.
