League One Latest: Cardiff City Star’s Uncertain Future, Reading FC Ponder Player Contract

Reading weigh up Elliott future after injury setbacks

Reading are yet to decide on Ben Elliott’s future following another injury-hit campaign.

The midfielder has endured a frustrating period disrupted by recurring fitness issues, having initially impressed before a serious thigh injury curtailed his progress and required surgery.

Elliott returned this season but suffered another setback in October, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign and leaving uncertainty over whether the club will extend his contract.

“With where we are at the minute, with the conversations I’ve had with Ben, obviously we’ve got a duty of care… to make sure he goes into the summer, into pre-season,” said Leam Richardson.

“He’s certainly welcome back into pre-season, to make sure he gets to the optimum fitness levels, and then the conversation can be ongoing from then.”

With his deal nearing its end, Reading appear to be taking a cautious approach, prioritising the player’s recovery before making any long-term commitment.

“No, I don’t rule anything out at the minute,” Richardson added.

“I think it’s important that we first and foremost make sure he’s fit… and then we can continue those conversations if he does come back into a good fitness level.”
