Jack Moylan Reflects On Ireland Prospects As Heimir Hallgrimsson Watches On

Jack Moylan has admitted it is his dream to play for his country after bagging another worldie in front of the Sincil Bank fans.

Moylan signed off the home campaign with a sensational strike against Wycombe Wanderers in the 4-3 win, blasting home after nutmegging a defender and jinking into the area. It was typical Magic Man, but it came with an added bonus: Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson was watching on in the stands.

After the game, Michael Hortin spoke to Jack on BBC Radio Lincolnshire Red Imps Club, and he admitted it as his dream to represent his country.

“I won’t hide away from it. It’s my dream to play for my country,” said the 24-year-old. “I’ve been a season ticket holder from the age of eight, I used to go to every game with my dad.

“I heard he (Hallgrimsson) was here today, it’s great, fair play to him for coming over and watching matches. Obviously, we had such a disappointment with the country a couple of months ago, but I think the country’s on the right path.

“So yeah, who knows what will happen next year.”

The Icelandic boss also got to see Lincoln City in action, although he did miss out on a Josh Honohan appearance. He was on the podium to collect a winner’s medal along with the squad in what Moylan called ‘the best season’ of his life.

“What a day, what a season, what a year. It’s just been unforgettable. It’s the best season of my life. It’s just so special to celebrate it with all the people around us today.

“I can believe it. I don’t think today is luck, the season’s not luck. I’ve said it many times in the past, this club, when I came three years ago now, everything was run properly and you knew off the pitch everything was set up for something like this to happen.

“We’ve got an unbelievable staff and an unbelievable bunch of players. It’s not luck. Sometimes we pinch ourselves, but this is what you sacrifice your whole life for, coming over here, lads giving up everything. This is the day to do it for.”

There is one more chapter to the story, a trip to Port Vale on the final day, which will see us both wave goodbye to League One after their relegation. For Moylan, tied on 12 goals with Reeco Hackett, it represents a chance to grab the golden boot, but perhaps also cement himself firmly in the mind of his international manager, who has a squad to pick for friendlies at the end of May.
