Former Lincoln City Prospect Has Contract Extended By Relegated Side

Former Lincoln City prospect Denny Oliver has seen his current Sheffield Wednesday contract extended by a year, as they announce their retained list.

Oliver was not offered a pro deal at Sincil Bank, but instead followed Jon Pepper to Hillsborough, where he impressed enough to be offered a one-year deal, with an option in the club’s favour.

Despite not appearing for the Owls’ first team, he did have a couple of decent loan spells. He spent a short time at Brighouse Town, who eventually finished bottom of the Northern Premier League Division One East, Lincoln United’s division. He then moved to Bridlington Town, where he joined up with former Lincoln City midfielder Scott Kerr, now in charge of Bridlington Town.

He impressed in his stint there, scoring a decisive winner against Silsden when relegation was still a possibility, and playing a role as his side thrashed Brighouse 8-0 on the final day of the season. He’s clearly shown enough promise for an extension of his contract with the Owls, relegated from the Championship in record time this season.

Denny is the oldest of three brothers, all of whom have been with the Imps academy. Lewy has appeared this season for the under-18s, while Kenzie is a couple of years younger. All three brothers were in the matchday squad for the FA Youth Cup fourth round tie at Plymouth Argyle in the 2024/25 season, the furthest the Imps have got in the competition. Lewy and Denny both started the match, which Lincoln lost on penalties.

The Owls have not offered new deals across the board: two more of their under-21 side, Mackenzie Maltby and Gui Siqueira, have been invited back but as yet not been offered a deal, while Junior Kamwa, on loan at Brighouse with Oliver, has been released.

They’ve also released senior players Nathaniel Chalobah and Dominic Iorfa, while talks are underway with Max Lowe, thought to be attracting Championship interest.

The Owls also had another Imp, Daniel Vanderpuye, on trial earlier in the summer, but as yet, it appears nothing has come of it.
