12 Management Duos From History As Lincoln City Appoint Two Head Coaches

Gerry Britton and Derek Whyte, Partick Thistle

Gerry Britton and Derek Whyte took joint charge of Partick Thistle in 2003, and their spell is usually remembered as a warning rather than a model. Both men were still registered as players, which made the arrangement unusual even by joint-management standards.

Partick were in the Scottish Premier League, but they were struggling badly. Britton and Whyte could not stop the decline, and the club were relegated at the end of the 2003/04 season. The following campaign brought no real recovery, and both men were dismissed in November 2004.

The damage continued after their departure, with Partick suffering a second successive relegation. That wider collapse cannot be pinned solely on Britton and Whyte, because the club had deeper problems, but their managerial partnership is inevitably tied to one of the bleakest periods in Thistle’s modern history.
