Two more friendlies have been added to Lincoln City’s pre-season schedule, with trips to Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers confirmed.
The Imps will travel to Blundell Park to take on Grimsby Town on Tuesday, 28 July (7pm KO). David Artell’s side finished seventh in Sky Bet League Two last season and were knocked out of the play-offs in the semi-finals by Salford City. Grimsby may also need to make a new managerial announcement in the coming weeks, with Artell linked with the vacant Stockport County position.
City will then make the journey to Club Doncaster Sports Village to face Sky Bet League One outfit Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 1 August (3pm KO). The Imps secured the League One title in South Yorkshire in April, winning 2-0 to complete a league double over Rovers, following the 2-1 victory at Sincil Bank in November.
Grant McCann’s side secured safety in their first season back in the third tier last time out, finishing 14th and will provide another strong test for Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
This will be the first of two first-team friendlies on 1 August, with another game at 7pm. This will be close enough that fans can attend both if they wish, and is expected to be the final fixture open to supporters prior to the start of the season.
These two clashes follow the already announced matches against Boston United (Saturday 11 July) and Leyton Orient (Friday 17 July). City fixture at the Jakemans Community Stadium gives supporters the first opportunity to see Cohen and Shaw take charge of the Imps. Following this, Lincoln have a week of warm weather training in the South of Spain, culminating in a clash with Leyton Orient at the Pintar Arena. This is the same ground that we faced Stockport County and Preston North End at in the last three years.
