Former Lincoln City loanee Morgan Rogers could be at the centre of one of the most lucrative sell-on windfalls in football history this summer.
Middlesbrough are reportedly in line for a major financial boost if Aston Villa decide to cash in on the England international, with Arsenal among the clubs being linked with a £100m move.
Rogers Interest Could Hand Middlesbrough a Huge Boost
Rogers has enjoyed a rapid rise since leaving Middlesbrough for Aston Villa in February 2024, and that move could now prove even more valuable for Boro than first expected.
The 23-year-old joined the Championship side from Manchester City in 2023 for a relatively modest fee, but his spell at the Riverside Stadium was brief and productive. His form there earned him a Premier League move, with Villa eventually striking a deal worth up to around £16 million.
Middlesbrough are understood to have protected themselves well in that sale, with reports claiming they included a 20 per cent sell-on clause when Rogers left for Villa Park. That could now become a significant factor, with the forward being linked with a summer move that may reach the £100 million mark.
Should such a deal happen, Boro could be in line for a windfall of around £20 million. That would put the payment in the same conversation as some of the biggest sell-on fees ever seen, including the money Independiente del Valle received when Moises Caicedo completed his move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea.
Former Lincoln Loanee Now Among Premier League’s Standout Names
Rogers remains a popular name from his loan spell during the 2020-21 season. He arrived at Sincil Bank from Manchester City as a teenager and played his part in the Imps’ run to the League One play-off final under Michael Appleton.
In fairness, he was young and raw when he came to City, scoring six goals and adding a single assist in his 23 League One starts. He was always clearly a massive talent, alongside Brennan Johnson, giving Imps fans something to be excited about, albeit on TV during those troubled Covid times.

His career has accelerated sharply since then. Rogers has become a major figure at Aston Villa, contributing 16 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season and playing an important role in their European success. He scored in Villa’s Europa League final win and was later named UEFA’s player of the tournament.
That form has inevitably brought attention from elsewhere. Arsenal have been credited with strong interest, while Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned in connection with the player.
