We have reportedly made initial contact over IF Elfsborg defender Ibrahim Buhari.
Buhari is a 24-year-old centre-back currently playing in Sweden, where he is under contract until the end of 2026. He is also said to have interest from Portsmouth, Cardiff City and Kasimpasa, so this is not one that looks especially straightforward.
The 6ft 3in defender joined Elfsborg from Plateau United in 2022 and has since made 56 league appearances for the club. He has also played in Europe, which is probably the bit that catches the eye most for us, given the jump we are making this summer.
He is described as a strong, athletic centre-back who can pass the ball and offer something from set pieces, which does sound like the sort of profile we would need in the Championship. Whether it goes beyond initial contact is another thing entirely, but on age, size and experience, it is an interesting link.
