Lincoln City Transfer Rumour Roundup: QPR, Stockport County, Coventry City & More

Finally, we are being linked with a move for released Coventry City midfielder Jamie Allen, as reported by Sports Boom.

Allen is leaving Coventry after seven years, and while I’m not totally sold on the source, the report does come from Neil Goulding, who has written for a number of national titles. He was also one of the names I threw into my free agents piece, although that was purely guesswork rather than anything I had heard.

The 31-year-old came through at Rochdale, moved on to Burton Albion, and then joined Coventry in 2019, becoming part of their rise from League One into the Championship. Wikipedia currently has him on 154 league appearances and ten goals for the Sky Blues, although the wider all-competitions figure is higher.

This is not a signing that would get anyone racing to the club shop, but it does make sense on paper. We will need some Championship know-how, and Allen has played plenty at that level, keeps the ball well, works hard and understands what the division asks of midfielders.

It feels like the sort of link that could be credible without necessarily being exciting. If we are looking to add experience around the promotion core, Allen fits that brief, but whether he is a priority or just another sensible name being assessed is another matter.

If you wish to refresh yourself further on players we have been linked with so far, here are six more the internet suggests we’re after. We’ll have two teams at this rate!
