Everton have confirmed that they have released former Lincoln City forward Frankie Okoronkwo following the expiry of his contract.
The attacker spent the first half of the season on loan at Sincil Bank from Everton, bagging a couple of goals, but was recalled in January amid a lack of appearances. He joined Doncaster Rovers, but injury curtailed that spell, and he is now a free agent.
He joins fellow youngsters Jacob Beaumont-Clark, Kingsford Boakye, Roman Dixon, Bradley Moonan, Tyler Onyango, Reece Welch, Goodness Gospel-Eze, Louis Poland, Charlie Stewart and Kean Wren in becoming free agents, all of whom will now be interesting clubs from League One downwards.
Okoronkwo came to us after a season at Salford City, where he netted four times in 24 outings. A strong attacker who could play wide, in behind, or up top, he has the physical profile City likes. He joined us on a season-long loan in August 2025, but he started just three times in the EFL.

He had to wait until November for his first goal, away at Barnsley in the EFL Trophy, but that came after he missed a glorious chance to open the scoring. A header as we beat Doncaster 2-1 followed four days later, but Jack Moylan’s return ended his Imps spell. He started the 3-2 defeat against Wycombe, but was hooked at half-time for Moylan, who inspired a comeback, albeit futile.
Okoronkwo appeared just three more times, all as a sub, and couldn’t even get a start as we went out of the EFL Trophy to Huddersfield Town. He left City on January 6th, joining Doncaster Rovers on the same day, but after one goal in five, he got injured, ending his season.
A decent option for a top-end League Two side, Okoronkwo needs regular football and a spell away from the treatment table. I feel there is an element of the Tyreece John-Jules about him, that perhaps if he were to stay fit, a career in the EFL beckons, but if not, he may find himself north of the border with a team like St Mirren or Kilmarnock by the time he is 24.
