Preston, Portsmouth And QPR Eye Swansea City Defender
Swansea City defender Josh Key is reportedly attracting Championship interest, with Preston North End, Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers all said to be monitoring his situation.
The 26-year-old is heading into the final year of his contract, which has made his position at Swansea one to watch this summer. Key made 30 appearances last season and has played 74 Championship games for the Swans since arriving from Exeter City in 2023.
His form dipped at times last term, but there were signs of a recovery, including a winner against Portsmouth in March. Swansea boss Vitor Matos often used Ethan Galbraith at right-back last season, but he has previously made it clear that Key remains someone he values.
“That’s the Josh we all know and we all want, so I am really happy to have him back.
“Josh is a brilliant professional, a wonderful kid with the right mentality.
“It was just a matter of time and a matter of confidence.”
The contract situation is the obvious reason for outside interest. Swansea must now decide whether to push for fresh terms, keep him into the final year of his deal, or consider offers if any of the interested clubs turn their tracking into something firmer.
