Derby County Closing In On Divin Mubama Loan
Derby County are closing in on a loan deal for Manchester City striker Divin Mubama.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Stoke City, where he scored five Championship goals before an ankle ligament injury disrupted the second half of his campaign. Derby are now looking to strengthen their attacking options, with Patrick Agyemang not expected to return until around Christmas.
Mubama joined Manchester City from West Ham United in 2024, with the Premier League champions paying around £2 million in compensation. He has made nine senior appearances for City, but has yet to score for the club, and another Championship loan is now expected to form part of his development.
His Stoke City spell included a strong start. He scored against Derby County on the opening day of last season as Stoke won 3-1, and later netted a hat-trick against Bristol City in November. However, his progress was halted in January by injury, and although he returned in March against Preston North End, that proved to be his final appearance of the campaign.
There were also difficult moments during his time at Stoke. During a poor run of form in December, he became a target for frustration from sections of the crowd, with Mark Robins publicly calling for supporters not to boo players.
Derby County are in need of another central striker, and Mubama would bring Championship experience, physical presence and scope for further development. For Manchester City, another loan move would offer him regular football after an injury-hit campaign, while Derby would be hoping he can provide the goals needed to support their push up the table.
