The Championship transfer market continues to move quickly, with West Ham United, Bristol City, Southampton and Derby County all involved in developing summer business.
West Ham United Closing In On Gustavo Sa Deal
West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Gustavo Sa, with a deal now understood to be close for the Famalicão midfielder.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a key target for the Hammers as they look to reshape their squad following relegation to the Championship. A move to the London Stadium is said to be nearing completion, with reports in Portugal putting the package at around €20 million.
That would be worth roughly £17 million and would make Sa the most expensive sale in Famalicão’s history. It would represent a major return for the Liga Portugal club, who have seen the midfielder become an increasingly important first-team figure over the last four seasons.
Sa broke into the Famalicão side during the 2022/23 campaign and has since built up significant senior experience. Last season, he became the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in Liga Portugal, underlining how quickly he has established himself at top-flight level in Portugal.
The attacking midfielder has also contributed regular goal output during his time with Famalicão, registering 24 goal involvements across his league career. West Ham United are expected to add fresh options in forward areas this summer, with Nuno Espírito Santo preparing for the demands of the Championship.
The Hammers were active in January as they attempted to avoid relegation, adding players including Axel Disasi, Taty Castellanos, Adama Traore and Pablo. However, those additions were not enough to keep the club in the Premier League, meaning a further rebuild is now taking place.
Sa’s arrival would represent an early statement in the Championship market, particularly given the size of the reported fee. West Ham United are expected to be among the sides under pressure to compete near the top end of the division, and the Famalicão midfielder appears set to become one of the first major pieces of their summer work.
