A member of the Lincoln City National League-winning side of 2016/17 has confirmed he’ll be plying his trade in the city again next season with Lincoln United.
One-time City captain Alan Power will remain with the Whites for the 2026/27 season, extending his stay with the Whites after returning to football last year, and celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the club’s remarkable promotion.
Lincoln United confirmed the news on social media, revealing that Power will continue as part of their squad for the new campaign at the Sun-Hat Villas and Resorts Stadium.
To regular readers of the site, Alan Power needs little introduction. The midfielder joined the Imps shortly after relegation from the Football League in 2011, arriving from Rushden & Diamonds, and went on to become one of the constants during a difficult period in the club’s history.
He made 261 appearances in all competitions for City, scoring 36 goals, and was club captain for a significant part of his time at Sincil Bank. His Lincoln career covered the full National League journey, from the first season outside the Football League through to the title-winning campaign of 2016/17.
Power was often associated with the tougher years, when the club struggled for stability and regular success, but his final season changed the way his time at Lincoln was remembered. He had looked to be on the edge of the side early in the Cowley era, with his opportunities limited at the start of 2016/17.
That changed as the season developed. After starting away at Chester in October 2016, a 5-2 win for the Imps, Power worked his way back into the side and became an important figure in both the National League title push and the FA Cup run.
His penalties against Guiseley and Brighton & Hove Albion remain two of the defining moments of that campaign. The first helped City recover from a difficult position on New Year’s Day, while the second came during the famous FA Cup fourth-round win over Brighton at Sincil Bank.
Power left Lincoln at the end of his contract in 2017, moving to Kilmarnock. He later played for St Mirren, returned to Kilmarnock, and also had a spell with Greenock Morton before joining Lincoln United in November 2025.
Now 38, he will continue playing locally, adding experience and leadership to a Lincoln United squad preparing for another season. For Imps fans, it is another chance to keep an eye on a midfielder whose name remains firmly tied to one of the most important years in the club’s modern history.
