Preston North End Complete Record Alfie Devine Signing
Preston North End have confirmed the permanent signing of Alfie Devine from Tottenham Hotspur, with the midfielder becoming the club’s record signing.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Deepdale after spending last season on loan with North End. Preston confirmed they had exercised their option to sign him permanently, with the fee described by the club as almost three times their previous record transfer. The move was announced by Preston’s official website.
Devine made 45 Championship appearances during his loan spell last season, scoring eight league goals. His move ends a long association with Tottenham, where he became the club’s youngest senior player and youngest goalscorer after featuring in an FA Cup tie against Marine in January 2021.
Speaking after the deal was completed, Devine said making the move permanent had been his priority.
“From the end of last season going into the summer, it was always a priority in terms of where I wanted to be. It took its time, but I’m delighted it’s gone through.
“From the first minute I came here until my last minute of last season, I absolutely loved it. The fans, staff, players, everyone around the place made me feel so welcome.”
Manager Paul Heckingbottom also welcomed the signing, saying the deal made sense both on the pitch and as a longer-term investment for the club.
