Championship Latest: Stoke City Sanction International’s Exit, Wolves Eye World Cup Star

Stoke City Defender Sydney Agina Joins Forest Green Rovers

Stoke City and Kenya defender Sydney Agina has joined Forest Green Rovers on loan until January after also signing a new two-year contract with the Potters.

The 18-year-old made five Championship appearances for Stoke during the closing stages of last season, having progressed through the club’s academy. His move to Forest Green was confirmed by the BBC, with the defender now set for regular senior football in the National League.

Agina, who was born in Manchester and represents Kenya internationally, earned his first senior cap last month. He had been with Stoke from under-eight level and signed professional terms in 2025 before making his first-team breakthrough during the 2025/26 campaign.

Stoke director of football Jonathan Walters said the loan was the next step in the player’s development.

“We believe further exposure to first-team football at a good level, on a consistent basis, is the logical next step for him to take,”

Forest Green Rovers will have Agina available for the first half of the season, while Stoke retain him on an extended deal as part of their longer-term plans.
