Queens Park Rangers Close To Julien Stéphan Contract Extension

Queens Park Rangers head coach Julien Stéphan is close to agreeing a new contract after completing his first season at Loftus Road.

The Frenchman was appointed last summer on a two-year deal and guided QPR to 15th in the Championship. Despite a difficult campaign, Rangers are now set to extend his stay ahead of the new season.

Stéphan arrived in England with a strong reputation from his time in France. He twice managed Rennes, his hometown club, and led them to the Coupe de France in 2019, ending a 48-year wait for a trophy. He also had a spell in charge of Strasbourg before taking the QPR job in June 2025.

His first year in West London was disrupted by injuries to key players, and QPR ended the season with four consecutive defeats. Even so, the club appear ready to continue with him and give him further time to develop the squad.

Speaking to BBC Radio London in April, Stéphan described the season as one with “a lot of ups and downs”, but said there were good foundations in place at the club.

QPR will be looking for improvement in 2026/27 after a bottom-half finish, but the decision to move towards a new deal suggests the hierarchy are prepared to back Stéphan beyond the original length of his contract.
