Championship side Portsmouth are preparing for several squad departures, while Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and Wrexham have all been active in shaping plans for the new season.
Portsmouth Expect Summer Departures After Firm Transfer Bids
Portsmouth are expecting players to leave Fratton Park this summer after sporting director Rich Hughes confirmed the club have received firm offers for members of John Mousinho’s squad.
Pompey currently have 31 senior players in their first-team group following the additions of Odin Bailey and Eoin Kenny, and further signings are still being targeted. That means space will have to be created, with departures now expected over the coming weeks.
Jacob Farrell and Ibane Bowat are among those Portsmouth are looking to move on, either permanently or on loan. Decisions are also expected on Josh Knight, Luke Le Roux, Makenzie Kirk and Harvey Blair as Mousinho reshapes his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Hughes said he and Mousinho had been clear with some players about their likely prospects, adding that some may be better served looking for opportunities elsewhere. Portsmouth are currently away on a pre-season training camp in Ireland, where Hughes and Mousinho have been working closely on both incomings and outgoings.
The sporting director said there had already been interest and “a couple of firm offers” for players, with those involved now assessing their options and speaking to potential clubs.
Portsmouth are still looking to add more players before the window closes, but Hughes has stressed the need for balance. With up to six further signings under consideration, moving players out has become an important part of the club’s summer work.
