Derby County Sign Former Burnley Defender
Derby County have completed the signing of experienced left-back Charlie Taylor on a one-year contract.
The 32-year-old became available after leaving Southampton at the end of last season and has now joined John Eustace’s squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.
Taylor has made more than 400 senior appearances, including 220 during a seven-year spell with Burnley. He left Turf Moor for Southampton in 2024 but struggled for regular football on the south coast.
He spent last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, making 28 appearances in all competitions before his contract with Southampton expired.
“I’m delighted. I’m extremely happy to be here,” he said.
“It’s a massive club with great facilities. Just wandering around and looking at the training ground, it’s very impressive.
“I’ve played at Pride Park a few times and obviously it’s a lovely stadium. The main thing is the fanbase. Whenever I’ve played here, it’s always been a sellout with a packed crowd.”
Taylor also believes his experience can be an important asset to Derby, adding that he still feels fit and fresh despite no longer being a young player.
Derby are due to visit Taylor’s former club Burnley on September 19, with the return fixture at Pride Park scheduled for February 20, 2027.
