Derby County Join Race for Brighton and Hove Albion Winger
Derby County have reportedly joined the growing list of clubs interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion winger Tommy Watson on loan.
The 20-year-old is expected to be allowed to leave the Premier League club temporarily after struggling to force his way into Fabian Hürzeler’s plans. According to the latest report, Brighton want him to continue his development in the Championship.
Watson joined Brighton from Sunderland in 2025, having caught the eye during his emergence in the North East. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall, although his opportunities were limited and he started only two Championship fixtures.
Derby are believed to have identified another wide player as a priority following the departures of Ben Brereton Díaz and Jaydon Banel. John Eustace’s side finished four points outside the play-off places last season and are expected to strengthen further before the new campaign.
Brighton reportedly remain optimistic about Watson’s long-term potential, with the winger contracted at the Amex Stadium until 2029. His availability has also attracted attention from elsewhere in the Championship, while Porto are said to have retained an interest after previously attempting to sign him.
