Wolverhampton Wanderers Agree Tolu Arokodare Deal With Ajax
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly close to allowing Tolu Arokodare to join Ajax after reaching an agreement over a loan deal containing an option to buy. The proposed move follows a difficult week in which the striker’s position at Molineux became increasingly uncertain.
The agreement is understood to include a purchase option worth around €20 million, with the overall package reported to be slightly above £17 million. Ajax have moved quickly after Arokodare became available, and the transfer now appears to be approaching its final stages.
His expected departure follows reports of a serious disagreement at Wolves’ training ground. A session was reportedly cancelled after Arokodare refused to leave the pitch when told he would not be training with the first-team group, while additional security was said to have been brought in as the situation escalated.
The Nigerian arrived in England after an impressive spell with Genk, where he scored 15 goals in 52 appearances during 2023/24 before following that with 23 goals in 45 games. He was unable to reproduce that output with Wolves, finishing his time at the club with six goals from 38 appearances.
Ajax appear prepared to offer the forward an opportunity to rebuild his career in the Netherlands. His previous success in Belgium may have influenced their interest, while Wolves are now close to ending a spell that has become increasingly difficult for both club and player.
