Birmingham City Agree Deal for Luis Vazquez
Birmingham City have reportedly agreed a €3.5 million deal to sign Anderlecht striker Luis Vazquez, with the Argentine already in England ahead of completing the transfer. Luca Bendoni reports that the move will be permanent.
The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Getafe after struggling to establish himself during the opening months of the campaign in Belgium. He made 17 appearances in Spain and scored three times as Getafe finished seventh and secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League.
Vazquez’s contribution extended beyond his goals. Standing at 6ft 3in, he was frequently used as a focal point, competing physically with defenders and providing an outlet when Getafe were under pressure. His ability to retain possession and bring teammates into play appears to be an important part of Birmingham’s interest.
Chris Davies’ side have already added Dael Fry and Jhon Solis this summer, but further attacking reinforcements were required following several departures. Kai Wagner, Kyogo Furuhashi and Jonathan Panzo have all left, creating room within the squad for additional signings.
Vazquez would offer a different profile to Birmingham’s existing forwards. While August Priske provides height and technical quality, the Anderlecht striker is regarded as a more traditional target man who can compete aerially, hold the ball and give the Blues another route of attack during difficult spells away from home.
