‘Exciting Players On Our Radar’ – Lincoln City Head Coach On Incoming Players

Lincoln City head coach Tom Shaw admits the club ‘need to add a few numbers’ before the big kick-off in 13 days.

The Imps face Middlesbrough in the Championship a week on Saturday, with a League Cup tie at Derby coming up this weekend. It’s a tough start to life in the second tier, and one fans might be apprehensive about.

With news that Jack Moylan could be leaving, and a 3-0 defeat against Barnsley the third loss to lower league opponents this pre-season, there is a feeling we’re in a worse place than at the beginning of July.

Shaw, reacting to the Imps’ defeat at Oakwell, admitted the club does still need some new faces.

“We need to add a few numbers,” said Tom.

“But this group of players got 103 points last year and won the league. To better this group of players, it is going to take a real talent.

“They are hard to find, hard to recruit and hard to get in. We are probably suffering a little bit from the World Cup as well, so the transfer window has not really taken off because of that, with players being held in at the bigger clubs.

“There are some exciting players on our radar, and there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. Every minute is being spent trying to better this squad and improve departments within it.

“We are getting there with things, and hopefully some things will happen in the next little period.”

The next little period, for City fans at least, is probably the next seven days, as we look ahead to Derby. It’s a competitive fixture, but very few City supporters would swap league points for progression in the cup.

There were some benefits for the Imps yesterday. Andrei Coubis got his first minutes in a Lincoln shirt, and looked very composed. Tom expressed how that was the level of player we are still trying to attract.

“We are a Championship football team. It is very attractive for any player to come and play for us, but we have got to get that right.

“We have got to get it right with their attributes fitting the game model, their character, their personality, and all the stuff that goes into signing and becoming part of the gang at Lincoln.”
