Swedish media are suggesting that reported Lincoln City target Mikkel Ladefoged is to be left out of the Västerås SK side for their clash with Djurgårdens IF this evening.
The Imps have been linked with a move for the 6ft 8in striker, with reports in Sweden suggesting a deal totalling £3.9m could be on the cards. Of course, that would be with add-ons, but it would still be a huge outlay for City.
The Dane has been a key figure for Västerås this season, with 11 goal involvements in 13 fixtures. He’s currently on a run of four goals and two assists in five matches, and would be a key figure for them as they look to overtake the Iron Stoves and possibly move into the Conference League second qualifying round spots in the Allsvenskan.
Aftonbladet, the same outlet that reported we were in for Erik Ring, have suggested that Ladefoged won’t be in the side for this evening’s match. In their preview of the game, which highlights how they’ve achieved success with a significant pressing game, they report he is not scheduled to feature, given the recent transfer interest.
That will be a blow to the Green and Whites, a side who have shown a certain amount of resolve not to sell the jewel in the crown. Västerås sports director Billy Magnusson has previously said that his staying put was the starting point, but when pressed, revealed the right bid could be tempting.
“The desired scenario is that it (an offer) is really good, while he can stay here the whole season. But we have to take that when it comes, and if it comes.
“But Mikkel is here now and doing really well, and in my world he should stay here the whole season.”
There is no solid team news for the fixture this evening, which kicks off at 6 pm our time, but if he were left out, it could signal that the Västerås resolve has been tested and cracked ahead of a move.
Whether that is to Lincoln City remains to be seen.
