Derby County are reportedly considering a move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Tom Iorpenda following his impressive season with Notts County.
The 21-year-old spent the entire 2025/26 campaign at Meadow Lane, gaining the sustained first-team experience that had previously been difficult to find with his parent club. His performances in League Two have now attracted Championship attention, with Derby credited with an interest in taking him to Pride Park.
There is no suggestion at this stage that a bid has been submitted or that discussions between the clubs have taken place. However, the Rams are understood to have monitored Iorpenda during a campaign in which he enhanced his reputation as a powerful and technically capable midfielder.
A move would offer the former Brighton & Hove Albion academy player an opportunity to step up two divisions after helping Notts County compete in the fourth tier.
Iorpenda joined Huddersfield’s youth system in 2021 but has made only 15 senior appearances for the Terriers. A back injury disrupted his progress before the loan to Notts gave him the chance to play regularly and demonstrate his potential across a full campaign.
Huddersfield must now decide whether the midfielder can force his way into their plans or whether his development has created an opportunity to generate a transfer fee. Iorpenda’s limited senior record for the Terriers means his value has largely been shaped by his work elsewhere, but a successful loan is often the point at which a young player’s position changes quickly.
Derby’s reported interest remains at an early stage, yet it demonstrates how significantly Iorpenda’s year at Notts County has altered his standing. After beginning last summer in search of regular League Two football, he could now be presented with the chance to establish himself in the Championship.
