Hull City Interested In Birmingham Defender
Hull City could attempt to prise Phil Neumann away from Championship rivals Birmingham City, with the Premier League side reportedly considering the German centre-back as they look to strengthen their defensive options.
The 29-year-old only moved to St Andrew’s from Hannover last summer, but established himself as an important part of Chris Davies’ side during his first campaign in English football. He made 32 Championship appearances as Birmingham settled back into the second tier following their record-breaking League One promotion campaign.
However, Hull are reportedly interested in offering Neumann an immediate route into the Premier League. Italian journalist Rudy Galetti is credited with reporting that the Tigers have identified him as a possible defensive reinforcement.
There is no suggestion at this stage that Birmingham are looking to sell. Neumann still has two years remaining on his contract and has continued to feature prominently during their pre-season preparations, leaving Hull with a significant decision to make if they wish to turn their reported interest into a formal approach.
The Tigers have already added former Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett following their promotion to the Premier League, while Rayo Vallecano defender Nobel Mendy has also been linked with a move. Birmingham, meanwhile, have strengthened their own defensive options with the addition of Kristoffer Lund.
