Championship Latest: Wrexham Agree £8m Deal, Middlesbrough Sanction Defender Exit

Eustace Wants More After Imps Defeat

John Eustace has called for Derby County to strengthen their squad after Saturday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat to City, admitting the Rams need more quality before the transfer window closes.

Goals from Ben House and Dom Jefferies gave the Imps a two-goal advantage at Pride Park, with Sammie Szmodics’ second-half strike not enough to prevent Derby exiting the competition.

Charlie Taylor and Filip Bilbija have arrived this summer, while Szmodics and Bobby Clark have returned after being with Derby last season. However, Eustace wants another three or four additions and believes there are several areas of his squad which can still be improved.

“I think it’s very important that we keep building on the momentum of last season, we haven’t quite done that at the moment and the signings will certainly help that and hopefully we can get three or four in and help the group. It’s in every area we want to strengthen and make better.”

Eustace was also unhappy with the level of Saturday’s performance, with City creating a number of opportunities during an impressive display. Derby now have to respond quickly, with their Championship campaign getting underway this weekend.
