Sheffield United Face Competition For Ahmedhodžić
Sheffield United’s hopes of bringing Anel Ahmedhodžić back to Bramall Lane may be fading after Burnley were linked with a move for the Feyenoord defender.
Southampton are also credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, who spent three seasons with the Blades before moving to the Netherlands last summer.
Ahmedhodžić made 114 appearances during his first spell in South Yorkshire, but the latest reports suggest United have not yet made a move. Chris Wilder confirmed after the weekend draw with Birmingham City that centre-back remains an area he wants to strengthen, although he was careful not to suggest Ahmedhodžić was their only option.
“We’re not just eyeing one player up. That’s a dangerous game to play. So there’s options out there, loan market and small fees, as we understand.”
Wilder added that United need further strength in that area if they are to be competitive, but growing interest elsewhere could make a reunion increasingly difficult. Burnley’s reported involvement adds another potential destination for Ahmedhodžić as the closing stages of the window approach.
