Stoke Push To Complete George Hirst Deal
Stoke City are reportedly moving closer to signing Ipswich Town striker George Hirst, with negotiations now focused on a permanent transfer.
The Potters hope to have the 27-year-old registered in time to feature against Southampton this weekend, meaning they need to get the deal completed before Friday’s registration deadline.
Hirst has been made available following Ipswich’s summer recruitment and Football Insider claim Stoke are currently leading the chase. Mark Robins already has Robert Boženík and Sam Gallagher among his attacking options, but the Potters are looking for further competition after beginning their Championship campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Swansea.
Hirst still has three years remaining on his Ipswich contract, but his route to regular football has become more difficult following their promotion and subsequent recruitment. Stoke had initially explored a loan with an option to buy earlier in the summer, but discussions have now progressed towards a permanent switch.
