2025: Jovon Makama, £1.5m Plus Add-ons
Destination: Norwich City

For around two decades, Jack Hobbs remained the name associated with Lincoln City’s record sale. Then Jovon Makama came along and did not merely edge beyond him; he doubled the figure. However, the total figure will change, and reports vary as to what the upfront figure is. It’s widely expected to be £1.5m, but with add-ons and clauses, it could go much higher.
Makama had joined City’s academy from Derby County and followed the sort of pathway the club increasingly wanted to create, with loan spells at Gainsborough Trinity and Brackley Town giving him senior experience before he established himself at Sincil Bank. His real breakthrough came in 2024/25, when he scored 11 times in all competitions and produced a remarkable March in which five goals and three assists earned him both the League One Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month awards. He left City with 15 goals from 97 appearances in all competitions, having also scored nine times in 79 league outings.
Norwich City came calling in August 2025, with the deal widely reported at around £1.5m including the potential for further payments, making Makama the first player City had sold for a seven-figure sum. It was an extraordinary return on a player developed through the system, and his first season at Carrow Road suggested Norwich had bought more than potential. Makama scored ten Championship goals and 13 in all competitions before a broken bone in his foot curtailed his campaign, having also registered his first Norwich hat-trick in an FA Cup win against Walsall.
