Mickel Miller has completed a move to Bromley, bringing an end to the incorrect speculation that linked him with a contract at Lincoln City earlier this summer.
The 30-year-old wing-back has joined Bromley on a free transfer following his departure from Huddersfield Town. The Ravens are in League One for the first time in their history, and Miller brings a degree of experience.
There is a certain satisfaction in the destination from my point of view. When Miller was linked with the Imps earlier this month, I suggested that a club such as Bromley might benefit from a player with his experience. That is precisely where he has now ended up. It’s almost as if I know what I’m talking about.
Miller spent a short period training with City during pre-season and appeared in the game against Doncaster Rovers. I also understand he played in one of the behind-closed-doors games we had over the pre-season period, but we were never looking to sign him. The Imps needed some additional bodies because of injuries and the size of the squad at that stage, and he helped fill that gap while also getting an opportunity to demonstrate what he could offer.
That was subsequently turned into a report suggesting he was in talks over a move to Sincil Bank. My understanding throughout was that no such negotiations were taking place. The distinction was important: training with the squad and appearing in a private friendly did not automatically mean a Championship contract was under consideration, particularly as City are pursuing a very different level of recruitment following promotion.
Miller looked capable enough against Doncaster without suggesting that he was likely to become part of Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw’s plans. He still appeared to have the physical qualities needed to contribute further down the EFL, and Bromley now offer him that opportunity.
Miller Adds Experience to Bromley
The wing-back began his career with Carshalton Athletic, where his goalscoring form earned him a move to Hamilton Academical. He spent a season and a half in the Scottish top flight before returning to England with Rotherham United. He later spent time on loan at Northampton Town and joined Huddersfield in 2024. He made 31 third-tier appearances for the Terriers before leaving at the end of his contract this summer.
The move looks like a sensible outcome for all concerned. Bromley gain an experienced and versatile player without paying a transfer fee, while Miller receives the chance to resume his career after several weeks without a club.
For us, his involvement amounted to a short spell helping the squad through part of pre-season rather than the beginning of a transfer. The subsequent reports created a story that was never as advanced as suggested, and his move to Bromley now draws a line beneath it.
It also means that one prediction from our earlier analysis proved unusually accurate. Miller has found the sort of club and opportunity that appeared to suit him, but there is no indication that he turned down a Championship contract at Sincil Bank to take it, or that we had a desire to sign him.
Because we didn’t.
