Former Lincoln City loanee Alfie Lloyd has signed a new contract with Championship side Queens Park Rangers following his return to West London.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season at Sincil Bank, having initially joined League One rivals Leyton Orient on loan. He was recalled by QPR in January before joining City for the remainder of our title-winning campaign.
Lloyd made 19 league appearances for the Imps, scoring once as we secured promotion to the Championship. His only City goal came in March, when he completed a 3-1 victory against Stockport County during our long unbeaten run towards the League One title.
The forward has subsequently made an impression during pre-season with QPR, scoring a hat-trick in a 7-0 victory against Bromley. He has now been rewarded with a fresh contract, although the Championship club have not disclosed the length of the agreement.
“I’m really happy to have signed it,” Lloyd said.
“This is where I want to be for my long-term future and I’m just excited to keep going, keep doing what I’ve been doing and repay the faith that’s been shown in me.
“I enjoy every day here and it’s the best place for me to develop as a player and as a person.”
Lloyd also reflected warmly on his time with the Imps, explaining that the experience helped him mature both on and off the field.
“It was definitely very special. I probably developed more as a person than I ever have in a year.
“It was obviously great to celebrate promotion but I also learned a lot of lessons.
“I feel like a different player now, a different person, and more ready for what’s to come.”
QPR chief executive Christian Nourry acknowledged that Lloyd had not played as frequently as he would have wanted during his two loan spells. However, he praised the forward’s response since returning to the club and highlighted improvements in his hold-up play, repeated high-speed running and finishing.
Lloyd has made 34 appearances for QPR in all competitions and scored twice. His new contract gives him an opportunity to build on that record, while the lessons and success he experienced at Sincil Bank appear to have helped strengthen his case for a place in the Rangers squad.
