Swansea City legend Lee Trundle has confirmed there ‘was talk’ of a move to Lincoln City back in the day, as well as praising our start to the season after the weekend’s defeat.
City led against the Swans through Reeco Hackett’s first-half penalty in front of more than 10,500 fans, but they turned the game around after the break through Moussa Yeo and Stephen Eustáquio. The visitors scored twice in four minutes to win 2-1, sending them to the top of the table. It wasn’t an easy afternoon for Vitor Matos’s side, and their celebrations at the end underlined their delight at taking something from the game.
Trundle is now an ambassador for Swansea City, the club he served with distinction between 2003 and 2007. He was a throwback to a different era, a maverick footballer blessed with talent, scoring 86 times for the Swans during his spell at the club. Those goals included a leveller at their place in the 2003/04 season, and an appearance in the last game before this weekend, when Garry Monk’s winning own goal gave us a 1-0 win.
Trundle is a player I always loved, one with good humour who loved banter with the crowd and was blessed with insane talent. When I interviewed Liam Cullen a few years ago, he cited Trundle as the player he wanted to emulate, and it’s nice to see him complimentary about the Imps.

Following that exchange, he confirmed that there was interest from the Imps earlier in his career. Like Matt Rhead, Trundle was a later developer, only signing a Football League deal when he was 25. That chance could have come much earlier: it’s claimed that we were interested in him while John Beck was manager, back in the days Trundle appeared for Burscough and Chorley.
He’s now confirmed that, saying that Beck was interested in him as a young player, and that there was talk, but ultimately nothing came of it.

I can’t even begin to imagine a character like Trundle accepting being hauled off after five minutes by Beck, but it is a mouthwatering prospect. Instead, he scored regularly for Stalybridge Celtic, Southport and Rhyl, before being signed by Wrexham in 2000. After that, the goal-laden years at Swansea City followed, including three successive appearances in the PFA Team of the Year.
He later played for Bristol City and Leeds United before returning to Wales to appear for Llanelli Town and Neath. Now 49, he is still playing, turning out for Cwmbrân Town in the Ardal SE League.
