The Ten Worst Lincoln City Signings of the EFL Era caused a lot of debate on social media, with a handful of people asking me why I missed certain players.
Of course, the reason is that I didn’t think they were in the top ten biggest transfer misses. However, due to overwhelming feedback, I have agreed to put the next ten on my list here.
Firstly, these are not necessarily bad players. Today, you have a player who won promotion to the Championship twice after leaving Lincoln. They’re not players who were utter guff, but often ones who struggled at Lincoln for a number of reasons.
My initial list only contained a single one-game wonder, because in compiling the list, I look at everything from the circumstances of their signing to the ultimate reward. For instance, Jamie Robson topped the list because we paid a six-figure sum for him to replace a major sale, and he left after fewer than 40 games to play for a side which experienced back-to-back relegations.
To refresh your memory, here are numbers ten down to one. After that, unusually and in a move likely to spin out those with OCD, I’ll list 20 to 11.
Also, for those who asked, it turns out Erik Ring isn’t even in the top 20.
