Former Lincoln City player Jack Moylan has been described as an “incredible signing” for Cardiff City after scoring twice and providing an assist in their weekend victory over Charlton Athletic.
Our former midfielder had a hand in all three goals as Cardiff won 3-1, taking his tally to four since leaving the Imps. It was a performance which prompted considerable praise on the Not The Top 20 podcast, with the EFL specialists highlighting both his contribution to our promotion and the way he has settled at his new club.
For those of us who watched Jack help City into the Championship, his ability to influence a game will hardly come as a surprise. However, producing that sort of return for a new side at a higher level is an indication of how quickly he has found his feet following the move.
Discussing Cardiff’s victory, NTT20′ George Elek picked out the recruitment behind the deal, suggesting the Bluebirds had identified a player capable of making a significant difference to their attack.
“An incredible signing from Lincoln,” he said.
“Played a huge part in taking them up, but also just a brilliant pick-up from Cardiff.
“For a team that don’t spend much money and don’t bring in many players, to pinpoint the best player of the team that finished above you the season before and bring him in.”
That description of Jack as our best player is certainly a strong endorsement, given the collective effort behind our title success. There would be plenty of debate among City supporters about that particular accolade, but his importance to what we achieved is reflected in the praise he is now receiving elsewhere.
The discussion also touched on the football Cardiff are playing, with the suggestion that their approach gives Moylan an even better platform to express himself.
“He’s obviously way more suited to the style that Cardiff play, probably, than Lincoln last season, and he’s playing incredibly well.”
It is clear that Cardiff are already getting goals and creativity from him, with Saturday offering evidence of both. Two goals would have made it an excellent afternoon on their own, but supplying the other in a 3-1 win underlined just how central he was to the result.
Watching a promotion winner make an impact elsewhere will always bring a little frustration alongside the interest. Still, four goals into his Cardiff career, Jack is giving us plenty of reason to keep following his progress, especially as there will be triggers in his deal that reward us, based on his success.
