The Imps were beaten at Bramall Lane after a promising opening half an hour, with the hosts eventually making their quality count. City had arrived in South Yorkshire hoping to build on their recent away victories over Preston North End and Bristol City, but were unable to produce another positive result on the road.
Hackett was one of two notable absentees from the squad, alongside Romanian international Andrei Coubiș, with Dom Jefferies coming into the starting XI. The defeat leaves City looking for a response when West Ham United visit Sincil Bank on Wednesday evening, although there is some optimism that the squad could be strengthened before that fixture.
Speaking to the written press following the game, Cohen explained that Hackett’s absence was precautionary, with the injury not expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period.
“Yeah, unfortunately, we played in the game against Walsall in the break and he actually got a ball in the face a couple of minutes into coming on. It was like a really delayed concussion.
“We’re hopeful that we can have him back for Wednesday night. If not, it’s not going to be two or three weeks away.”

The delayed nature of the symptoms meant Hackett’s availability only became an issue towards the end of the week, and City will now have to follow the necessary concussion protocols before he can return to action.
“He just unfortunately came in on Friday morning, I think, and didn’t quite feel right, so we just need to keep going through the protocols and see if we can get him back for Wednesday.
“If not, then he should definitely be back for the Millwall game.”
The news offers some encouragement ahead of a demanding week for the Imps, who face two Championship fixtures in quick succession. With West Ham arriving on Wednesday, Chris and Tom will be keen to have as many players available as possible, particularly after a disappointing afternoon at Bramall Lane.
Hackett’s return would provide another attacking option for City, although his recovery will take priority over any immediate selection considerations. If Wednesday’s fixture comes too soon, Chris is confident the Saint Lucia international will be available for the subsequent meeting with Millwall.
