24 March 2008: Scott Kerr (29) Hereford United, 2-1
Scott Kerr made his displeasure clear after being sent off for a two-footed challenge on Clint Easton at Sincil Bank. Dave Foster produced the straight red in the 29th minute, leaving City short in midfield against promotion-chasing Hereford. The reshuffle brought a first-team debut for Martin Pembleton, who replaced Jamie Forrester as the Imps adjusted to losing their captain.
Dany N’Guessan supplied an immediate response, collecting the ball after Hereford’s resulting free-kick and running the length of the pitch before firing City ahead. Gary Hooper equalised after 62 minutes, but Easton’s foul on Ben Wright gave the ten men a late opportunity from the penalty spot. N’Guessan converted in the 85th minute to complete his double, and Lenell John-Lewis subsequently struck the bar as City secured a 2-1 victory.
10 January 2009: Paul Green (38) Brentford, 2-2
City’s task of recovering a game that had swung Brentford’s way became harder when Paul Green was dismissed in the 38th minute. His two-footed challenge on Bees captain Kevin O’Connor brought a straight red from Steve Bratt, with the Imps already trailing 2-1. They would have to retrieve the deficit while playing the remaining 52 minutes with ten men.
Dany N’Guessan’s early opener had been overturned by Marcus Bean and Dean Bowditch, but Brentford wasted a glorious opportunity when Charlie MacDonald fired over an empty net from two yards. Geoff Horsfield, returning after cancer treatment, then helped City make them pay. His header set up Anthony Elding’s 66th-minute equaliser, earning the ten men a battling 2-2 draw.
