14 March 2009: Anthony Elding (45) Bury, 1-1

Two flashpoints in as many minutes brought Anthony Elding’s afternoon to an explosive end. He was booked for kicking out at Efe Sodje before receiving a straight red following a scuffle on the ground with Ryan Cresswell just before half-time. Cresswell received a yellow, while Elding’s departure sparked further trouble when he appeared to be jostled by members of Bury’s bench, with stewards intervening to break up the ensuing brawl.

Ben Wright had put City ahead on the half-hour, tapping in after Michael O’Connor’s pass and Aaron Brown’s knock-back opened up Bury’s defence. Andy Bishop wasted two good chances for the visitors, and the ten men came close to protecting their advantage. Their resistance finally broke late on when Elliott Bennett released Bishop to finish past Rob Burch and secure a 1-1 draw.

13 February 2010: Moses Swaibu (13) Rotherham United, 1-2

Stopping Adam Le Fondre’s run through on goal proved costly for Moses Swaibu and City. His foul brought a 13th-minute red from Jarnail Singh for denying a goalscoring opportunity, followed by a penalty which Le Fondre converted. The Imps were left chasing the game with ten men for more than three-quarters of the contest.

Brian Gilmour almost brought City level with a 30-yard drive which struck a post, but Gary Roberts doubled Rotherham’s advantage after 65 minutes, finishing a swift counter-attack. Substitute Steven Lennon’s first goal for the club revived hopes in the 77th minute. The ten men mounted a late fightback, but could not find an equaliser and slipped to a 2-1 defeat.
