December 2014: Alan Power (32) Kidderminster Harriers, 1-2

For a few moments at Aggborough, nobody seemed certain who Adam Hopkins had sent off. Alan Power and Jack Byrne had contested a 50/50 ball, with both remaining on their feet as the referee produced a straight red. Initially it appeared Byrne might be the recipient, but it was the City captain who eventually trudged off in the 32nd minute.

Ahmed Obeng’s stoppage-time winner made this a particularly painful afternoon for the ten men. Delano Sam-Yorke had put us ahead just before half-time, only for Marvin Johnson to equalise with a fine volley six minutes after the restart. City were still level deep into added time, with Paul Farman saving superbly from Josh Gowling and Tom Miller producing a vital block. However, Harriers kept the resulting corner alive and Obeng fired through a crowded penalty area to condemn the Imps to a 2-1 defeat.

January 2015: Jon Nolan (18) Eastleigh, 0-4

The Imps’ bright start at the Silverlake Stadium unravelled when Jon Nolan went in hard on Will Evans in midfield after 18 minutes. Chris Powell immediately showed the midfielder a straight red, leaving City to negotiate most of the afternoon a man short. Delano Sam-Yorke and James Constable were then booked for their involvement in the exchanges which followed.

Remarkably, Eastleigh failed to score from three penalties and still won 4-0. Paul Farman saved spot-kicks from Brian Howard and Jack Midson, while Evans sent another over the bar. From open play, Midson struck before half-time and again early in the second half, either side of a Constable goal which helped put the game beyond us. Craig McAllister added the fourth in stoppage time to complete a thoroughly miserable trip.
