March 2016: Bradley Wood (38) Tranmere Rovers, 2-3

Blocking Jeff Hughes’ goal-bound shot inside the penalty area brought Bradley Wood a straight red and handed Tranmere the chance to break the deadlock. Wood was dismissed in the 38th minute, with James Norwood converting the resulting penalty to leave City chasing the game with ten men.

Two headed equalisers demonstrated how stubbornly the Imps resisted their hosts. George Maris supplied the first, only for Jake Kirby’s hooked finish to restore Tranmere’s advantage, before Robbie McDaid headed City level again. However, Adam Mekki’s late deflected strike finally settled a five-goal contest, condemning us to a 3-2 defeat and lifting Rovers into the play-off places.

August 2016: Bradley Wood (30) Sutton United, 1-3

An off-the-ball scuffle with Roarie Deacon brought Bradley Wood another straight red, this time half an hour into Sutton’s visit to Sincil Bank. Simon Barrow consulted his fellow officials before dismissing Wood and booking Deacon. With Matt Rhead already forced off by a leg injury and City trailing to Dan Wishart’s free-kick, the dismissal compounded a difficult opening half.

Sam Habergham briefly transformed the afternoon with a spectacular equaliser, spotting Ross Worner off his line and beating him from 45 yards. Jonny Margetts then struck the post as the ten men threatened to turn the game around. Instead, Jamie Collins headed Sutton back in front after 83 minutes before Deacon finished a stoppage-time counter-attack to secure the visitors’ victory.
