2005: Torquay United 1-2: Lee Beevers (79), Paul Morgan (87), Alan Marriott (88)
City’s visit to Plainmoor on 24 September 2005 produced an extraordinary collapse in discipline, with three players dismissed in the closing stages of a 2-1 defeat. Gareth McAuley had given the Imps a tenth-minute lead, which we held until six minutes after the interval when Darren Garner equalised. Alan Connell then put Torquay ahead in the 66th minute, completing the scoring before any of Lincoln’s three red cards. City were therefore already chasing the game when the dismissals began, eventually finishing with eight men.
Lee Beevers was first to go, receiving his second yellow card in the 79th minute after an earlier booking in the 65th. The situation deteriorated sharply in the final few minutes when captain Paul Morgan was shown a straight red for kicking out at Connell in the 87th minute. Goalkeeper Alan Marriott then ran 20 yards to kick the ball at the same player, earning his own dismissal a minute later and leaving City without both their captain and goalkeeper.
