2015: Chester 0-4: Todd Jordan (15), Alan Power (61)
City endured a miserable Conference evening at Chester on 27 January 2015, conceding twice inside 12 minutes on the way to a 4-0 defeat. John Rooney’s shot deflected in off Sean Newton after five minutes, before Sean McConville punished a weak Ben Tomlinson pass to double the advantage. Ryan Higgins struck from 25 yards in the 24th minute, with Brad Abbott adding another long-range goal after 66 minutes. Jordan Burrow had a header cleared off the line during an encouraging spell after the interval, but City’s two dismissals left an already struggling side facing an increasingly difficult task.
Todd Jordan was first to go in the 15th minute, bringing down Oliver McBurnie a yard outside the penalty area and receiving a straight red for denying a goalscoring opportunity. His dismissal forced Arnaud Mendy into the back line alongside Nat Brown, with City already two goals behind. Captain Alan Power followed in the 61st minute after a sliding challenge on Craig Mahon, with referee Simon Bennett consulting his assistant before producing another straight red, to the astonishment of the Imps’ players and management. It was hardly a surprise: Power was sent off seven times during his Imps career, the most of any player to have pulled on the shirt.
