‘It Feels Really Good To Be Back’ – Former Lincoln City Man On Championship Return

Former Lincoln City striker Jovon Makama says it feels “really good” to be back in action as he looks to put his injury problems behind him at Norwich City.

The 22-year-old made his first start of the season against Portsmouth on Saturday, having been eased back into the side following the foot injury which ended his previous campaign.

Jovon’s return comes at an important time for the Canaries, with fellow forward Mo Toure sidelined until January. Saturday’s defeat was his sixth appearance of the season, and he is keen to build on the goal he scored against Middlesbrough.

Speaking to Norwich’s official matchday programme, in comments reported by The Pink Un, our former forward explained how much he had enjoyed getting back out on the pitch. After a lengthy spell watching from the sidelines, simply being involved again has been a welcome step.

“It feels really good to be back so far.

“That feeling of stepping back out onto the pitch in front of the fans with all my teammates is something that has made it even more special, coming back from injury.

“I’m really enjoying it, and I was really happy to get that goal against Middlesbrough.

“Hopefully I can keep it going that way and keep on scoring goals.”

Jovon left the Imps for Norwich in August 2025, having scored 15 goals in 97 senior appearances for us. His final season at Sincil Bank included that memorable hat-trick against Bristol Rovers, with his performances earning him our Young Player of the Season award.

His first campaign in Norfolk brought 13 goals in all competitions, an impressive return for a young player making the step up from League One. Ten of those came after Philippe Clement replaced Liam Manning in November, before a foot injury sustained against Blackburn in February brought his season to an early end.

There is understandable appreciation for Clement’s influence, with Jovon crediting the Belgian for helping him adjust to Championship football. He also believes there is plenty of improvement still to come.

“The change from League One to the Championship has been a big step up, especially for a young player like me who was not experienced in this league.

“I think Philippe Clement coming in has helped me develop massively as well, and there’s still a lot more to come.

“It’s been a good past year for me, and I’ve learned a lot of things.

“I’ve tried to listen as much as possible to the manager, to the staff and to all the people around that have my best interests at heart and want me to do well.

“It’s just about taking information on board and using it in the right way to kick on, start getting some goals in the league and improve as much as possible on a personal level and for the team.”

It is good to see Jovon back with an opportunity to pick up where he left off, even if Norwich’s need for goals brings a little extra pressure, and a continuation of their rubbish form works well for us. His first season had already shown he could make an impact in the Championship, and the injury denied him the chance to build on a productive spell.

We saw his development at close quarters, from a young player finding his feet in senior football to one capable of winning games for us. Hopefully, a sustained run of fitness now gives him the opportunity to keep progressing, although we can do without him finding the net against us.
