Former Imps Player Makes Lincoln Return Four Months After Departure

Former Lincoln City defender Charlie Carlisle is back at Lincoln United after spending the opening months of the season with North Ferriby.

Carlisle left the Imps in the summer after coming through the academy, but his latest move takes him back to Ashby Avenue, where he spent last season on a work experience loan from the Imps.

The Whites described Carlisle as a “key player all over the pitch” last season when they announced his return on Instagram. A centre-back by trade, he can play elsewhere across the back line or step into midfield, something he had already shown during his time in City’s academy.

Carlisle joined the Imps at under-ten level and went on to make 28 appearances for Sam Tillen’s side in 2024/25, helping the young Imps equal the club’s best FA Youth Cup run. He left Sincil Bank in the summer without making a senior appearance and agreed a deal with North Ferriby, who play in the same division as the Whites.

There was a fair bit going on around Carlisle during his first spell at Ashby Avenue. Two managers departed during the season, but he remained an important player as Dave Frecklington’s side pulled away from the relegation places after Christmas. He even provided one of the more memorable goals of the campaign, a screamer in a 4-2 win over Consett AFC.

Carlisle played in all 17 of Ferriby’s league games. He’s already been back to Ashby Avenue this season, coming on for captain James Williamson after 31 minutes in a 2-1 defeat on 24 October. Kane Hutchinson-Wilkes won it for the Whites three minutes from time.

United sit ninth in the Northern Premier League East Division with 25 points, five off the play-off places. Ferriby are 17th with 17 points from the same number of games. The Whites host Bridlington Town tomorrow, with the visitors 14th, three points behind United with two games in hand. Ironically, they beat Ferriby 3-1 last weekend, so if Carlisle features, he’ll face them for the second Saturday running.
